# About Barclaycard Payments

Welcome to Barclaycard Payments. We’re leading global payment experts who can help you transform your business – whatever its size, sector or ambition. Barclaycard Payments combines over 50 years of payment experience with insight and data across the Barclays group. From introducing the first credit card in the UK in 1966 to being the first to offer contactless payments, Barclaycard Payments continues to innovate with products and partnerships to help businesses thrive and grow. We also work with developers and selected partners to integrate seamless payments across business and eCommerce ecosystems.

Our modern REST API and hosted checkout experience enables you to accept card payments online, take one-time or recurring payments, and manage the full transaction lifecycle — authentication, authorisation, capture, refunds and settlement — from one place.

## About the Platform

Our platform is designed for ease of use, supporting developers integrating a first payment gateway as well as experienced teams migrating from another PSP. The Payments Gateway sits between your website or app and the card schemes and card issuing banks. It handles:

* **Secure checkout** — using a hosted payment page (or embedded SDK) so you never need to build or store a card form yourself.
* **Authentication** — implementing 3D Secure (3DS2) checks to meet PSD2/SCA requirements and shift fraud liability where eligible.
* **Fraud screening** — enabling configurable risk rules via our fraud partner, Kount.
* **Transaction management** — flexible handling of transactions across the lifecyle, from authorisation and capture through to refunds, and reconciliation.
* **Recurring payments** — reusable payment mandates for subscriptions and scheduled collections.

## Supported Payment Methods

The Barclaycard Payments platform supports the following card payment methods:

* **Visa**
* **Mastercard**
* **Diners Club / Discover**

## Trading online with Barclaycard Payments

To trade online with Barclaycard Payments you'll need a merchant account suited to your business — this varies by region, merchant size, and industry sector. Typical account types include standard e-commerce, marketplace and platform (multi-merchant), and subscription/recurring billing accounts.

Before you can process live transactions, Barclaycard Payments carries out standard merchant onboarding checks, including Know Your Customer (KYC) and underwriting. To get started:

* Visit the [Barclaycard Payments product website](https://www.barclaycard.co.uk/business) to review pricing and eligibility, or
* Contact your Barclaycard Payments account manager, who will guide you through the sign-up forms and onboarding process.
